New Delhi, Mar 14: The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the arrest warrant of Hollywood actor Richard Gere in connection with a kissing row involving Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty.

LOS ANGELES, March 14 (UPI) -- Authorities in India canceled an arrest warrant for U.S. actor Richard Gere, who was cleared of obscenity charges for kissing a Bollywood actress in public.

Shilpa Shetty was born on 8 June 1975 in Tamil Nadu, India and hails from the Bunt community of Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka. She is the eldest daughter of Surendra and Sunanda Shetty, manufacturers of tamper-proof caps for the pharmaceutical industry, and her native language is Tulu. But it is reported that she can speak nearly ten other languages including English, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil, Urdu and basic French. [Citation needed]

Shilpa Shetty is 5 ft 10 inches (178cm), and she is one of the tallest actresses in Bollywood. Currently she lives in Mumbai with her parents and sister. Her younger sister Shamita Shetty is a budding Bollywood actress and they worked together in the film Fareb (2005).

Shilpa Shetty was crowned the winner of the British Celebrity Big Brother on 28 January 2007 with 63% of the final vote, after an international racism controversy involving her and fellow contestants Jade Goody, Jo O'Meara and Danielle Lloyd.

Career in Movies

Shilpa steeped in to the world of entertainment at the age of 19, when she was seen in a Limca ad. She made her debut in Baazigar (1993), wherein she played the role of a woman murdered by her psychopathic boyfriend. With Kajol in the lead role, she was a supporting actress alongside Saha Rukh Khan. This movie was a huge hit that earned her a nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.

Next year in 1994, she was seen with a leading role in Aag, which was not fared well at box office, but later that same year her movie Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994) opposite Akshay Kumar was a huge hit and a big respite for this then budding actress. In 1995, she was seen in films like Aao Pyar Karen and Hathkadi alongside actors like Saif Ali Khan, Govinda and Madhoo, but these movies was not rated well at box office.

Then the year 1997 turned out to be busiest year for her as six of her film released that year including small Telugu language film Veedeva Dani Babu, action thriller Auzaar where she is atarred opposite to Salman Khan and sanjay Kapoor.

Pardesi Babu (1998) was another remarkable movie that gathered critical acclaim and she won the Bollywood Movie Award for Best Supporting Actress for this movie. This success followed by another successful movie Dhadkan(2000) and she got number of nominations under the best actress category in different award ceremonies.

In 2002, she was seen in Ristay with Anil Kapoor amd Karisma Kapoor, where she has done a comic role of a fisherwoman. Her role was appreciated and she received a nomination under the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award category and various nominations for Best Comedian as well.

In 2004, she did another fascinating role of a Muslim orphan and disillusioned table dancer opposite Salman Khan in Garv, though the movie was not a hit at box office, she met the success with Phir Milenge. In 2005, she was seen in movies Dus, Fareb with her sister Shamita. In 2006, much delayed movie Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar was released, though the movie could not fare well at box office, she was appreciated for her role as a wife with negative shades.

Year 2007 was another successful year for this stunning actress with big hit movies like Life In A Metro and Apne. Both the movies were box office hit and it garnered acclaim from both audiences and critics. She became a world famous celebrity after winning Celebrity Big Brother show in the UK, and she was paid Rs.31.5m (£367,500 GBP) for her participation. Shetty won the contest after gaining 63% of the public vote and described the experience as "incredible and overwhelming"

After her success in Celebrity Big Brother and launching her signature 'S2' perfume, she is all set to lunch her own production house called 'S2’ Productions and come up with DVD video on Yoga. She is a subject with versatile character and she loves doing new things and venture out to unexplored task.

She has dated Akshay Kumar at earlier days of her career but the couple move out of the relationship in 2000 when he started dating Shipla’s friend Twinkle Khanna. Afterwards, she has shown her love for director Anubhav Sinha and called him her soulmate, but they could not move along for fear of parental disapproval. As of now, she is single and leading a happy life with her parents and sister. Though not dating anyone, she plans to get married within three years and adopt a teenage daughter.
